A Message From Finbar!
To Finbar Wright Universal Fan Organization
October 2007
At this stage, I am convinced that the energies and capabilities of the UFO group are of such a scale that they are under-harnassed - there is no doubt in my mind that UNICEF or the United Nations itself would be well-deserving of your organisational talents and overall enthusiasm. Certainly, for my half-century celebrations, you excelled yourselves in both preparation and execution. Your personal cards well full of humour, warmth and good cheer. Your contribution to charity was generous as always and will be dispatched to an appropriate cause. Your cake was outstanding, original, a beautiful work of art, delicious, and quickly scoffed by all-comers to the backstage area at the National Concert Hall in Dublin - however, the most exquisite corner of it made the journey home with me. I wanted to preserve it somehow but pressure from neighbours and friends finally forced me to part with it and it was cleared to the final crumb or petal, whichever way you look at it!!! The final piece of the celebratory puzzle left me truly dumbstruck (and that is not as easily done as it may appear!). I cannot adequately express how honoured I was to receive such personal messages of good will, not only from many of my respected colleagues in the music business, but especially from President Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary. This is a letter that I will treasure always and, as the motivating force behind it, you have done something truly special which I will have and hold as a golden moment in the years ahead that God may grant me. It was a fitting tribute to your generosity of spirit that we had a packed house at the NCH, Dublin, to witness the good will and inimitable style which are hallmarks of your great nation. I thank you all for your individual contributions to making this a wonderful celebration and I wish each of you health, happiness and endless days of fun and high spirits.
A special word of appreciation to Susan and Sharyl who were undoubtedly fearless, tireless, and creative as ever at the centre of this whirl of activity!
